Buxton Fringe announces art contest winner!

PRESS RELEASE December 3rd 2019 - For immediate release

Buxton Festival Fringe has announced the winner of its recent competition to design the cover of next year’s printed Fringe programme.

Hannah Webb, a 21-year-old graphic design student at Manchester School of Art, came up with the winning design which was unanimously chosen by the judging panel. She says: “My inspiration behind the design was the festival itself. I wanted it to be colourful and vibrant to reflect the creativity and lively feel of the Buxton Fringe. The busy composition shows a jumbled mix of all the different art forms that the festival has to offer while creating a sense of togetherness. I chose the colour palette around the signature Fringe orange to tie it all in. I’m so excited to have won! I can’t wait to see my design printed on the programmes.”

Hannah lives in Whaley Bridge where she says she has been doing design work for the town such as the FAB Market posters. She heard about the competition from her family friend Linda Maguire, owner of Atticusboo in Buxton. She will be awarded £100 prize money for her artwork which will be used on thousands of Fringe programmes as well as on the Fringe flyer and in other publicity.

A runner up - respected Buxton artist Pam Smart - was also announced while a Buxton Community School student Polly Luc Bartels was Highly Commended for her witty entry. Entries to the competition are on a gallery page.

The Fringe wishes to thank everyone who entered but was particularly delighted by Hannah’s joyful design. Fringe Marketing Officer Stephanie Billen says: “We loved looking at all the designs, each capturing something different about the Fringe, but Hannah’s winning entry really hit the spot. It is a very fun, fresh, funky design with a lovely message about people working together to create a friendly arts festival with a big variety of entertainment to enjoy.”
