Smile Please! Fringe 2010 is officially Family Friendly!

Press Release - 18 June 2010

The Buxton Festival Fringe has always welcomed audiences and attendances from families and young people and this year's Fringe is more accessible than ever with a thriving For Families section as well as a new 'smiley face' symbol for 'family-friendly' events throughout the programme.

The For Families category illustrates the variety that's always present at the Fringe. There's theatre in the shape of the magical world of The Clock Master, Teatro Saurus with Ook! And The Terrible Thing That Happened, Buxton's REC Drama School with The Rainbow Under The Sea and last year's award winners, Little Pixie Productions with Turned Out Nice Again!

Expect magic and laughter from The Jester of Buckingham and Fringe award winners High Jinx with Misdirected plus some toe-tapping poetry and song from Jim MacCool. Kids get to join in at a workshop to make Tiny objects and at a fascinating event at the Buxton Museum about the Romans in Buxton.

As well as the events specifically listed under the For Families section, the Fringe has plenty of shows in other categories that could be of interest to young people. In a new system for 2010, all Fringe performers were invited to indicate whether they thought their shows were generally 'family-friendly' so look out for the handy 'smiley' logo peppered throughout the programme.

This year's Buxton Festival Fringe runs from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 25 July and details of all events are available online at http://www.buxtonfringe.org.uk or in the widely available free printed programme.

The Fringe is hugely grateful to its many supporters including its main sponsor The University of Derby Buxton as well as The Osborne Group, High Peak Borough Council and The Old Hall Hotel.
