Enjoy a bit of the other at Buxton Fringe!

Press Release - 18 June 2010

While some categories, such as Theatre, Comedy and Music are bursting at the seams, the Buxton Festival Fringe is just as excited by those entries that take place in the less full categories such as Dance or Film, or indeed those that defy categories and are just known as 'Other Events'.

At the forefront of the Dance category are the Chapel en le Frith Morris Men with their annual Day of Dance. However, if your taste in dance is more contemporary, there's the return of last year's sell-out success Spiltmilk Say Dance, with a revamped version of their show taking a fresh look at social dance crazes from the 20th century, including the hand jive, disco, the twist and rave as you've never seen them before! Daniel Somerville presents the autobiographical Three Works, creating dark, emotional landscapes of movement. Finally, Encarna Dance, a late entrant to the Fringe, presents Unquiet with two performers ... and two personalities.

On the film front, following its success at Fringe30, the Weekend of Film returns, with a mixture of recent feature hits and award-winning shorts, while Whaley Bridge celebrates Bastille Day by showing Jean de Florette.

Finally, in the 'Other Events' category, there's the (already sold out) Buxton Military Tattoo in the Dome, promising the start of an exciting new tradition at the Buxton Fringe, an evening of close-up magic from the High Peak Magicians' Society performing at the Palace Hotel for the first time, as well as the astonishing, full-size static railway carriage that is Hendrick's Horseless Carriage of Curiosities.

No need to stay indoors either. There's the now traditional guided walk detailing Vera Brittain's Buxton and another covering the History of Water and Well-Dressing. Not to be outdone, Buxton favourites, Three's Company, have come up with their own (rather more irreverent) walking tour showing an as-yet unknown side to the town!

This year's Buxton Festival Fringe runs from Wednesday 7 to Sunday 25 July and details of all events are available online at http://www.buxtonfringe.org.uk or in the widely available free printed programme.

The Fringe is hugely grateful to its many supporters including its main sponsor The University of Derby Buxton as well as The Osborne Group, High Peak Borough Council and The Old Hall Hotel.
