Listen Up! Spoken Word at Fringe30

PRESS RELEASE: June 8th 2009

Spoken Word comes in many forms and to suit all tastes at this year's diverse and exciting Buxton Fringe.

Reflecting the current revival of interest in poetry, there are readings of popular works from Wyn Hobson and poetry and piano recitals from F Philip Holland. Look out too for memorable performance poetry in the form of New Age musical theatre from Mark Gwynne Jones & The Psychicbread plus outrageous, in-your-face, poetic rantings from Monkey Poet. There's also a chance for you to present your own poetic works in the Open Poetry Slam!

There are also monologues, whether about legendary art dealer Lord Duveen in Art Deal or No Deal! or the more personal performances of Charles Christian (The Boy With The Bomb Under His Bed) and Sophie Tilley (When Something Happens).

Wrap this up with the traditional free Fringe Readings in the Old Hall Hotel - this year featuring a special Fringe30 afternoon of children's readings - and there's spoken word entertainment for everyone.

This year's Buxton Festival Fringe runs from Wednesday 8 to Saturday 26 July and details of all events are available online now at http://www.buxtonfringe.org.uk. The full brochure of events is also now widely available.

The Fringe is hugely grateful to its many supporters including its main sponsor The University of Derby Buxton as well as The Osborne Group, High Peak Borough Council and The Old Hall Hotel.
