Family fun at Buxton Festival Fringe

PRESS RELEASE: For immediate release May/June 2008

Buxton Festival Fringe (July 9-27) is for everyone to enjoy and this year's programme is more family friendly than ever.

As well as listing events specifically aimed at families, the new-look printed programme (available from the second week of June) contains a handy box on the For Families page with suggestions of suitable shows from other categories such as the Burbage Art Group Annual Exhibition complete with cakes and children's quiz, or The Story of Jam from Chapel Youth Centre Jam Nite. Throughout the programme there is information about age suitability for many of the shows listed.

There is so much to choose from. Why not check out the Young Rec Drama School offerings featuring The Haunted Storybook, the Second World War drama Evacuees and Once Upon a Time High, a brand new play written by a talented 14-year-old, Holly Friend, in which Pinocchio and other fairytale characters cause mayhem at a modern high school?

National Archaeology Week provides an opportunity for children to take part in fascinating workshops at Buxton Museum showing what it must have been like to live in the Iron Age.

And don't forget that you can experience a smorgasbord of delicious events at Fringe Sunday on July 13 at the Pavilion Gardens from 2 to 4.30pm, a free afternoon showcase featuring music, drama and face-painting.

There is so much to do at the Fringe. For the fifth year running, we are involved in the Carnival on July 12, so kids, wave those free orange balloons and sport a Fringe T-shirt or wear orange to show your support! (new orange T-shirts, caps and other merchandise are available for sale at very reasonable prices from the Fringe Desk next to the Opera House at the entrance to the Pavilion Gardens' conservatory.)

For further information and ideas, do pick up a programme or see the website at http://www.buxtonfringe.org.uk.
