Buxton Festival Fringe announces AGM

PRESS RELEASE: For immediate release October 14th 2007

Buxton Festival Fringe, currently celebrating its 28th year, is inviting anyone with an interest in the Fringe to attend its open-to-all Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, November 13 at Buxton's Old Hall Hotel.

Running concurrently with the opera-based Buxton Festival, the Fringe is one of the largest in England and encompasses a vast variety of arts including drama, exhibitions, music and dance.

The AGM, which takes place at 7.30pm and will be followed by a committee meeting at 8pm, offers a chance for newcomers to gain an insight into the behind-the-scenes working of the Fringe, which is run by volunteers.

There are many ways to become involved, with varying degrees of commitment. The committee, which meets every month, is open to all and is the place where ideas are discussed and policy decided. It needs new members, particularly anyone who feels they can help with marketing, organising Fringe reviews or helping with promotional events such as Fringe Sunday. To join, simply contact the Fringe chair or another committee member for an introduction to one of the meetings.

Alternatively, you can show your support by contributing £10 to become a Friend of the Fringe (contact Peter Low on 01298 25104 for further details). The Fringe is always in need of funds and this is a tangible way in which to help ensure its successful continuation.

As the Fringe draws near - next year's dates are July 9-27 2008, a slightly longer span than usual, making it a bumper Fringe - the pace quickens. Could you help distribute the Fringe programmes? Could you stuff envelopes? Would you be interested in writing a Fringe review of a show in return for a free ticket? If you think you will see quite a few shows, would you like to attend the Fringe's special meeting on the last Sunday morning of the Fringe to help decide who should win a Fringe award?

If you would like to become involved at any level, the first step is to attend the AGM or else to contact Fringe Chair John Wilson on 01298 70562 or Send message to Info
