Buxton Festival Fringe: April Deadline Looms

PRESS RELEASE: For immediate release March 16th 2007

Buxton Festival Fringe is urging potential Fringe performers to get their entries in soon in order to take advantage of the ten-pound discount offered for entries received by April 1.

'Not only do you save money on your entry fee, but it helps the Fringe enormously to receive entries early rather than all at the last minute', says chair of the Fringe committee, John Wilson. 'It also means that you will go up on the Fringe website immediately thereby maximising your exposure.'

The comprehensive Fringe website at http://www.buxtonfringe.org.uk includes full information for entrants and a completely revised and updated venues' list featuring Buxton venues as well as out of town ones such as the Bookstore at Brierlow Bar (planning an environmentally-themed season) and St James the Less Church and Arts Centre in New Mills. A new online entry procedure means that entrants can enter all their details online and make their payment online as well.

Entrants should also be planning how they want to publicise their event at Fringe Sunday, the Fringe's free showcase of events on Sunday July 8th from 2pm to 4.30pm at the Pavilion Gardens. There will be a limited number of slots for artists to perform extracts from their shows so be sure to book yours: Send message to Fringesunday. Performers can also dress up and hand out fliers during the Buxton Carnival (July 14) where the Fringe will have a float. Send message to Press for further information.

The Buxton Festival Fringe runs from July 6-22 this year and is looking forward to a bumper crop of drama, music, exhibitions, comedy, dance and more. Entries already confirmed include a production of Godspell by the Young Rec and performances from early music consort Aitone and the High Peak Orchestra. In a reflection of the diversity of plays on offer, Kobal Theatre Company present Beer!, a comedy drama featuring a pink elephant while the 1623 company will be putting on Macbeth in the atmospheric surroundings of Poole's Cavern.

There will also be a plush Salsa Ball at the Palace Hotel, street theatre from Shakespeare Jukebox and must-see exhibitions such as the tenth anniversary Burbage Art Group show and the Derbyshire Open. Fans of Three's Company will also want to catch a revamped version of their award-winning Play on Words and a prequel to their Transport Trilogy entitled Crash Course (this last is partly interactive so the plot will change each night according to audience suggestions!).

You can be part of the Fringe without necessarily being a performer. The Fringe is always looking for volunteers for tasks such as distributing the Fringe programme and for reviewing Fringe events. There is also a thriving Friends of the Fringe scheme with over 100 Friends having signed up to support the Fringe and gain benefits including ten per cent off ticket prices.

The final deadline for Fringe entrants is May 1 after which date it will not be possible to list events in the printed programme (available from June). For more information and to see the programme of events building up, do check out the Fringe website.
