THE MAGIC OF MUSIC AT BUXTON FESTIVAL FRINGE
PRESS RELEASE: For immediate release May/June 2006
Buxton Festival Fringe (July 7-23) provides a wonderful programme of musical events to complement the impressive, opera-based repertoire of the prestigious Buxton Festival running at the same time.
The choice of entertainment on offer is truly eclectic and this year, bigger than ever. There really is something for everyone. Take your pick from:
- Top quality orchestras: Amaretti Chamber (featuring ex-professional Halle players); award-winning High Peak; Fringe favourite, Manchester Recorder; King Edward Musical Society of Macclesfield
- Medieval and Renaissance music: excellent repertoires from Accordes, Aitone, Partita and Uncloistered (the latter performing a magical combination of Gregorian chant, Renaissance polyphony and Tuvan throat-singing in the atmospheric setting of Poole's Cavern!)
- Best in acoustic: film stuntman turned singer, Harley; contemporary folk from Hojo; four-piece band Return to Red; Yorkshire's Sam Dunkley; Saturday night Chill-Out Sessions from Underground Events; folk legend Ashley Hutchings at Tideswell (a late entry)
- Sensational song: Angela Rowley and Anna LeHair; Nicola Mills; Blues diva Gill Sweeting; award-winning Rachael Pennell with songs of Rodgers and Hart; a cappella from Zimbabwe's Nqi Ngqo
- Mozart Mania: Join Laura Tanner for her 250th anniversary Mozart Marathon
- Something else entirely: Elton Eric, the Human Jukebox; Vegas Elvis, Eddie Powers; post-modern pottiness from Project Adorno
