Committee News Sept 2005

The first meeting after the Fringe is always an opportunity for the committee to review the last Fringe and look forward to the next.

Everyone round the table had very positive memories of 2005 and lots of ideas for 2006. We failed again in our bid to Arts Council East Midlands so we will be restricted as to what we can actually achieve as a group of volunteers without any paid help. Still we hope to be able to undertake some work to foster comedy, children's events and street theatre. We also hope to look at involving the Friends of the Fringe more and increasing their number. In addition we will discuss how we can run a Fringe Club which we can ensure will actually happen next year. Another plan is to investigate having an A5 programme next year which can be more user-friendly. Other issues which we hope to address are: Desk Manager's tasks, pre-booked ticket delivery system, disabled access, internet booking, marketing of the Fringe to potential entrants and encouraging more young people to become involved, perhaps by going out more to schools and groups.

A topic raised on the discussion board and one very important to committee members is the thorny one of Fringe Awards. We decided to devote most of the meeting to having a preliminary discussion prior to taking decisions at a future meeting.

We would be grateful for your comments on our thoughts.

Please contribute your ideas in our new topic "Thoughts for 2006 Fringe" on the discussion board
